[edit] History

[edit] Early Years (1996-1998)

Benno De Goeij began working as a producer in 1997 along Piet Bervoets whom he met at a party. [1] Jonathan Joosten also known as The Happy Groover released a single "When I Snap My Fingers..." under TF Productions which included two remixes from both Benno and Piet. They decided to create music of their own and created the duo Pedro & Benno with singles "Scream For Love", "Talkin' To You", and "Speechless" released under Karma Records. [2] They also created track under the aliases Precious People, Gualagara, A.I.D.A., Simplistic Mind, Two Disciples, R.O.O.S., and Southsquare which remixed "Blackspin" in 1996, a track for Passenger which is one of the many aliases from Tijs Verwest. "Schapie, Schapie, Schapie - Hassan Jassan" was a single by The Scary Groover in 1998 which is another alias from Joosten, this time Goeij and Bervoets worked on a track rather than creating a remix.

[edit] Rank 1 Project (1998-2003)

Main articles: Rank 1 and Kamaya Painters

In 1998, Rank 1 was born as they thought it would be a perfect joke to see Rank 1 at a number 1 position. This joke became real when "Airwave"' hit numerous charts at that position. They also remixed Cygnus X's "Superstring" song and released an anthem for Sensation in 2001 known as "Such Is Life" from the album Symsonic. In 2003 they re-released "Breathing" which was another charting track since it was a more break beat version of "Airwave". [3] The Rank 1 Project is still working under a new studio album, since both deejays take tours around the world every year. In 1998 Tiësto and Goeij created Kamaya Painters, with three succesfull singles.

[edit] Becoming a Producer (2004-present)

In 2007, their first work with Armin van Buuren was created, it featured Kush and was entitled "This World Is Watching Me"; The song was written by Armin Van Buuren, Benno De Goeij, Pete Kirtley, Sacha Collisson, and Zoe Durrant. [4] As of then Goeij began helping Armin on his next album. In early 2008 Rank 1 worked with Jochen Miller's song "And Then..." which was written, composed, and arranged by Goeij. [5] In 2008, Armin van Buuren released his third studio album known as Imagine which included Goeij's writing and production abilities in all songs except for "Imagine", "Fine Without You", and "Intricacy".
