Benjamín Zarandona Esono, usually just Benjamín, (born March 2, 1976 in Valladolid), is a Spanish footballer who has playes as a central or left-sided midfielder. He is currently unattached having most recently played for Xerez CD. He is the brother of Iván Zarandona.

[edit] Valladolid
He began his career with Real Valladolid, playing initially for the reserve team in Segunda División B. The highlight of his career at Valladolid was helping them qualify for the UEFA Cup in 1997. He played four games in the subsequent UEFA Cup campaign.
[edit] Real Betis
In 1998 he joined Real Betis and in their subsequent UEFA Cup campaign he made 4 appearances, scoring 2 goals. Benjamín spent the 2000/01 season playing for Real Betis B in the Segunda División and went on loan to Cádiz CF in 2005/06. Benjamín was seen as an outcast at Real Betis during his final years at the club. He was unregistered as a first team player for over a year and a mutual termination of his contract was agreed in the summer of 2007.

In 1998 Benjamín helped Spain U21s win the UEFA U-21 Championship. Howver he later switched allegiances and played at senior level for Equatorial Guinea[1]

Benjamín's father is Basque and his mother is from Equatorial Guinea. Despite his Basque parentage he has never been approached by Athletic Bilbao and he has never played for the Euskadi.
