[edit] Ingredients
Beneful is marketed as a premium dog food according to their website and Beneful states their food contains "the perfect balance of real wholesome ingredients, quality nutrition and great taste."[1]
Beneful uses ground yellow corn as a main ingredient in their formulas while other premium dog foods use chicken meat. While corn is not harmful, it is inexpensive. Beneful also uses poorer quality ingredients of corn gluten meal, animal fat, animal digest, soybean meal, brewers rice, beef tallow, chicken by-product meal, sugar, and sorbitol which are not found in the premium competitors foods such as Natural Balance, Artemis, By Nature and others.[2]
Beneful is also one of the few companies that use the artificial coloring agents of Yellow 5, Red 40, Yellow 6, and Blue 2.
