Benefits Supervisor Sleeping

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Benefits Supervisor Sleeping is a 1995 painting by Lucian Freud depicting an obese, naked woman. It is a portrait of Sue Tilley, a Job Centre boss. Tilley is also the author of a biography of Australian performer Leigh Bowery titled “Leigh Bowery The Life and Times of an Icon”.

While appearing on ITV news in May 2008 to talk about the sale of the portrait for £17.2 million Kaite Derham described her as "fat Sue", to which Tilley replied "that's not my name". This was then picked up by Chris Moyles on his Radio 1 Breakfast Show and interjected into the Ting Ting's Number One hit "That's Not My Name" at regular intervals during his show.

The painting holds the world record for the highest price paid for a work of art by a living artist, of US$33.6 million (£17.2 million).[1] It was sold at Christie's in New York in May 2008 to Roman Abramovich.[2]
