Benedictum is a heavy metal band from San Diego, California, currently having released their sophomore effort. The band was originally formed by vocalist Veronica Freeman and guitarist Pete Wells after the end of their earlier band Malady. After finding Blackie Sanchez and Chris Morgan the group produced a three-song demo with the aid of producer Jeff Pilson, who also provided the bass, cello and additional keyboards at the time. They were signed later by Locomotive Records and recorded further songs to complete their debut album Uncreation, which was released on January 29, 2006 in Europe and March 14, in North America. They also toured a number of locations throughout Europe during the summer of 2006.
In an interview, vocalist Veronica Freeman commented that Jeff Pilson was the first producer she had worked with that understood her voice, commenting that "You go to the studio or something and they see oh it’s a chick and set the levels for a faster voice and I have literally blown out equipment before." [edit] Trivia
- Veronica, Blackie and Chris are former members of a Dio tribute band called Evilution.[2] That is one the reasons for their Dio cover of "Rainbow in the Dark" on their demo and "The Mob Rules" and "Heaven and Hell" on Uncreation, both Black Sabbath songs from the Dio era.
- In the song "The Mob Rules" on Uncreation, Jimmy Bain (former Rainbow and Dio member) plays as a guest.[3]
- Also in the "Valkyrie Rising" song on the same album Craig Goldy from Dio is guested.[4]
- Their producer Jeff Pilson is the former bassist of Dio, among other active and non-active bands.
