Benedict Akwuegbu (born 3 November 1974) is a Nigerian football striker, who plays for Beijing Hongdeng in Chinese Jia League.

He plays for Nigeria national football team and was a participant at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Benedict Akwuegbu (Nigerian) is a professional footballer who played at the world cup 2002.

Akwuegbu started his career at highlanders FC of Jos one of the Nigerian first division before moving to the french top club Rc lens, At the end of his first club outside Nigeria he had to spend the next five years in Belgium with Harelbeke FC,Waregem FC,Alst FC,After his contract in Belgium he moved to Austrian Club Grazer.

With Grazer Ak he played in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup, and won the Austria Cup in 2000,2002 Austria Supercup 2000,2002 and the league title in 2004 while with Grazer Ak he also played 20 European Cup games and he scored 12 goals and two remarkable ones against french goalkeeper Fabien Barthez and he also won the Best foreign player(1999)in Austria bundesliga, several German Bundesliga clubs like Hamburg SV and Kaiserlautern tried to sign him. But Grazer Ak refused the offer from Kaiserlautern He eventually signed two-years deal with Grazer Ak.

Akwuegbu's success in Austria made the national team coach Jo Bonfrere to invite him for the 2000 nation's cup which he played his first international game against Tunisia, with his progress in the team he was in involved in the world cup qualifiers and he scored three goals which kept him with the supereagles of Nigeria,His performance was great and he was included again in the Nigerian national team to the world cup (Japan/korea 2002)Benedict Akwuegbu (Austrian Bomber)as he fondly called by Austrian press played his first 90 mins world cup game against the Lions of England.

He played in Nigerian 2002 World Cup campaign, where they failed to progress beyond the group stage.
