Benedetto II Zaccaria

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Benedetto II Zaccaria (12351314), known as Paleologo, was the Lord of Chios and Phocaea, as well as other Aegean islands from 1307.

Paleologo was the son and successor of Benedetto I Zaccaria. On the death of his father, his cousin Tedesio Zaccaria, governor of Phocaea, formed an alliance with the Catalans of Gallipoli against the Ottoman Turks. In 1313, he was forced to abandon the city to the Byzantines and temporarily retire to Thasos, where he died and was succeeded by Andreolo Cattaneo (died 1331).

Paleologo died in 1314 and was succeeded jointly by his cousins: Martino and Benedetto III.
