Ben Skywalker is a fictional character in the Star Wars Galaxy. He was born 26.5 ABY and is the son of Jedi Masters Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade Skywalker. He has his father's blue eyes and his mother's red hair. He is named after Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi, his father's former Jedi Master.

Because Mara Jade was infected by Yuuzhan Vong coomb spores, she and Luke decided against having children. However, despite their efforts, Mara found, while attempting to heal her body with the Force, that she was pregnant.

[edit] Early Life (26.5 ABY - 40 ABY)

Ben was born at the end of Edge of Victory: Rebirth, a book from the Expanded Universe's New Jedi Order series. He was actually born aboard an Imperial-class Star Destroyer named the Errant Venture, shortly after his parents were forced to flee Coruscant during heightened troubles between the Jedi and the New Republic Senate. As a baby, he was sent to the Maw in order to remain out of danger from the Yuuzhan Vong. He had little contact with his parents, though became embroiled in a kidnap attempt by Viqi Shesh during the Fall of Coruscant. Lando Calrissian and C-3PO were able to save Ben high above the galactic capital.

Five years later, Ben has grown into an intelligent eight-year-old child. Like the rest of his family, he is also strong in the Force. However, he cut himself from the Force due to the pain and suffering he sensed during the Yuuzhan Vong war. Since then, he has refused to use the Force, a disturbing development his parents do not know how to overcome. He has recently adopted his cousin Jacen's views on the Force, but resembles Anakin Solo in personality.

During the Swarm War, Ben became friends with a Killik named Sh`tonya, thinking the creature to be his pet. In the end, his mother was forced to kill the Killik as it actually had intentions to brainwash young Ben to join the Dark Nest. Ben eventually became an unofficial Jedi apprentice to his cousin Jacen Solo, and soon began to open himself to the Force with Jacen's guidance. When he found out about Jacen and Tenel Ka's secret daughter, Allana, Jacen believed he had no choice but to erase his cousin's memories of that event, as he felt that he couldn't trust Ben to keep this a secret.

During the events of the Legacy of the Force series, Ben is still training under his cousin Jacen Solo, and is becoming a typical teenager and a powerful Jedi. On a mission to Adumar, he shows his worth as a Jedi, but shows the signs of teenage rebellion by saying 'lubed', which Jacen forbids him from using as it is slang. At Centerpoint Station, Ben meets a droid form of the late Jedi hero Anakin Solo, and bonds with him, using him to deactivate Centerpoint Station. After that, he never told his Aunt Leia and Uncle Han that he had seen a form of their son, something that his father counselled him to do. After the assassination of Corellian Prime Minister Aidel Saxan, Ben and Jacen head to Lorrd, where they meet fellow Jedi Nelani Dinn. Ben had a slight interest in her, probably from teenage hormones. Later, they head to an asteroid near Bimmiel, where he faces off against a dark side phantom of his mother, Mara Jade. He is beaten, and awakens on the ship he and Jacen arrived on. Nelani is dead by Jacen's hand, and Brisha, the woman they travelled with, is the Sith Lumiya. Ben is told that they both died from the hand of a Sith Lord. Jacen doesn't mention that he interfered with Ben's memories again. It is unknown how Ben will develop over the course of the series. In Bloodlines, Ben grows closer to Jacen and serves under him in the GAG. At the GAG, Ben goes on terrorists raids. Mara and Luke become more worried about him as Jacen draws ever closer to the dark side. At the end of Bloodlines, Ben's trust in Jacen is shaken though when Jacen kills Boba Fett's daughter during an interrogation. Ben then has his own confidence shaken after killing an unarmed terrorist.

During Tempest, Ben is even further under Jacen's wing, much to the dislike of Luke. However, after facing Lumiya, Luke and Mara decide to take Ben from Jacen, because they had found evidence that someone in the GAG had been helping her. Lumiya also said (falsely) that Ben was the one helping her. Ben also tried to arrest Han and Leia (his own aunt and uncle) after they rescued him from floating in outer space. During the process, Zekk tried to restrain him from behind. Ben accidentally sliced him.

During Exile, Lumiya and Jacen conspire to begin Ben's training as a Sith apprentice. Lumiya sends Ben to the Sith world of Ziost, where he must find and recover a sacred Sith amulet. Jacen, much to Lumiya's aggravation, disagrees with her methods, but finally gives in and lets Ben go. Ben discovers the Amulet missing when he gets to Ziost, but he finds a note saying that 'Faksur of Ziost' has taken the Amulet. Ben is eventually stranded in the Ziostian Wastelands, but sees smoke coming from the woods. When Ben finds the smoke, he sees Faksur and his six-year-old daughter Kiara struggling to survive. Ben kills Faksur in a sudden burst of Dark Side Rage, in front of Kiara. Ben and his stolen R2 unit leave Kiara to die in the snowy forest, but the R2 convinces Ben to turn around and save Kiara. After using the Force to demolish some attacking TIE Fighters, Ben realizes that something is calling him. He finds an old organic Sith ship, much like the Yuuzhan Vong ships of years past. Ben's adventure with the Sith training vessel continues in Sacrifice.The ship and Ben become friends, and the ship takes Ben to Jacen's ship to deliver the Amulet. Ben has greatly matured since Jacen has last seen him. (It is also useful to note, Ben is 14 and two weeks old when he returns from the Ziost quest.) Jacen sends Ben home, then meets with Lumiya, who senses something in the Force and realizes that the ship is speaking to her. The ship tells her that it has been searching for her. Having no interest in the ship, Jacen allows Lumiya to take it with her, for further examination and to keep the existence of the Sith ship a secret.

As Ben is one of the people close to Jacen, Lumiya considers Ben to be Jacen's sacrifice in order for him (Jacen) to become a full Sith Master. Jacen also considers Ben his would-be Sith apprentice, once Jacen's transformation to a Sith Master is complete. However, in a conversation between the Sith ship and Lumiya, the ship shares its disapproval of Ben, saying he is not Sith material. Besides Luke himself, Ben seems to be the only Jedi with the potential to face Jacen in open combat. Ben soon discovers that Jacen was behind the death of his mother Mara Jade, and starts to form a plan to kill him. Ben's plan leads to the death of Cal Omas, and Luke's decision in withdrawing the Jedi from the battle at Kuat. Ben waited for the chance to kill Jacen when the Anakin Solo was firing turbolaser strikes on Kashyyyk causing planet wide forest fires. Ben first strikes Commander Twizzl cutting half way through his torso. Ben attacked Darth Caedus (Jacen as a Sith Lord) but to no avail, awaking to being tortured in the Embrace of Pain. Luke, after faking his death, found his son Ben, and was forced into an epic duel with Jacen. Ben escaped the device, claiming it was his right to kill Jacen, plunging a vibrodagger between his shoulder blades. Luke, not wanting to make the same mistake with Lumiya's vengeance killing, left Jacen. Ben left with his father after hearing Alema may have been responsible for Mara's death.
