He started off his career presenting on MTV and then went on to present The Bigger Breakfast and T4. In his early career he appeared in the video game Hardwar as the character Syd.

In 2000 he joined GMTV as a presenter on Entertainment Today. In 2008 it was announced that he would replace Andrew Castle as the main male anchor of GMTV Today, the channel's flagship show, hosting alongside Fiona Phillips every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. He previously presented Thursdays and Fridays with Kate Garraway.

He used to present The Xtra Factor on ITV2, a spin off from The X Factor before being replaced by Fearne Cotton for the 4th series.

Then, in 2006, along with co-presenter Fern Britton, he presented the reality TV show Soapstar Superstar. But Britton and Shephard were both replaced from hosting the second series of the show by Zoe Ball.

Shephard has also reported for ITV's All*Star Cup. He also presents a show for Heat Radio

During the second series of ITV's Dancing on Ice, Ben presented the spin off show, Dancing on Ice Exclusive along with Andi Peters. On a recent edition of The Paul O'Grady Show, Ben modestly admitted to have been voted as the 73rd sexiest male in the world.

Ben left The X Factor franchise to front BBC One's new show DanceX[1]

Ben became the host of the BBC's National lottery quiz show - 1 vs. 100 - for its third series, which began in April 2008.

Ben presents for Heat Radio on Monday nights.

Ben will present a new Saturday night entertainment series for ITV1, alongside Denise Van Outen, called Who Dares Sings. The premise of which will include 100 members of the studio audience to hitting the right notes in the largest karaoke competition on TV.[2]

According to music and football messageboards Shephard may be set to take on Cockney Rejects singer Jeff 'Stinky' Turner in a celebrity charity boxing match.
