From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ben Shemen (בן שמן) is a moshav in Israel approximately four kilometres east of Lod in the municipal territory of the Hevel Modi'in Regional Council.

First founded in 1911, it was refounded in 1952 by Romanian immigrants. Today, it has a population of about 400. There are houses in Ben Shemen built by Bezalel Academy of Art and Design founder Boris Schatz.

The Ben Shemen Youth Village, a large agricultural boarding school, is situated adjacent to the moshav. Founded in 1927 by Dr. Siegfried Lehmann, the school is one of the oldest in Israel and hosts primary and secondary schools, various other agricultural facilities and a zoo.
