[edit] Career
Born in Bournemouth, Dorset, Jones' first steps into the radio industry were as teaboy and Broadcast Assistant on local radio stations such as 2CR and Power FM.
After a spell as one of the DJ's at the Capital Radio Cafe in 1997, Jones became a presenter on the British version on The Disney Channel. From 1998 he worked as a presenter CITV, fronting programmes such as The Top 10 of Everything, Its a Mystery and CITV Afternoons along with other presenters such as Stephen Mulhern and Danielle Nicholls.
[edit] Virgin Radio
In 2001 he joined Virgin Radio, where he has worked to this day.
Ben has presented a wide variety of shows, including:
- Afternoons
- Virgin Superstars
- Most Wanted
- Virgin radio drive-time
- Album Chart
- Sunday Night Live is on Sundays 7-10pm.
In Jan 2007 Ben became the Virgin Radio drivetime presenter. However, since July Ben has returned to the Most Wanted show. It is well known that he preferred the style of the Most Wanted, with interviews, sessions and lots of new music, so the decision was made to move him back.
On 21 November 2007, Christian O'Connell revealed on his breakfast show that Ben had been offered a job at a rival London radio station, but Ben turned it down in order to stay at Virgin Radio. He also quipped the offer was to take over Chris Moyles' breakfast show, but given the animosity between O'Connell and Moyles, it is likely that this declaration was false.
Jones says he enjoys working at the station and has appeared with actors like David Tennant,Sara Beeny and many others.
[edit] Accolades
Jones won a Bronze Sony Award in 2003 for Virgin Superstars, and is one of Virgin Radio's most popular interviewers, interviewing such stars as Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Coldplay, Robbie Williams, Slash, Ozzy Osbourne, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Ronnie Wood. Besides Jones would like to get Muse to do the theme song of the new James Bond's Quantum Solace which would be a new experience for the band.
[edit] Private Life
Ben is married to Anna who he met on a blind date at a Stereophonics concert in 2003. Ben has made no secret of the fact that he is a huge fan of the band as a result. They live in Fulham and as is often mentioned in jest on air at Virgin they have a hot tub in their garden. Ben is quite heavily tattooed.
[edit] Trivia
Ben has achieved the highest accolade of coining a slang term in Viz magazine's Roger's Profanisaurus.
