Ben Hines

Benjamin Thortan Hines (born November 7, 1935 in Yeager, Oklahoma) is a former coach in Major League Baseball. Hines is best remembered as the batting coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers, a position he held from 1985-1986 and 1988-1993.

A short stop at Mesa Community College and Cypress College, Hines was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 4th round of the 1976 MLB Draft.

Unable to hook on with the Tigers organization, he became manager of the University of La Verne team and won NAIA coach of the year honors in 1977. He managed the independent league team Alaska Goldpanners from 1978-1982.
