Ben Gill (born 9 October 1987 in Harrow[1]) is an English footballer who currently plays for Cheltenham Town of League One. He plays either as a central midfielder or central defender. Gill attended John Lyon School.[citation needed]

[edit] Career

Gill started his career as a youth player at Arsenal but was released in July 2005 and joined the Academy of Championship side Watford. Whilst still an Academy scholar he made his first team debut in a League Cup victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers on 20 September 2005, coming on as a substitute.[2] He went on to make two further substitute appearances in the League Cup and FA Cup respectively, against Premier League sides Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers.[2]

Watford were promoted to the Premiership at the end of 2005–06 season, and Gill was awarded a professional contract.[citation needed] In October 2006, he joined Conference side Cambridge United a month's loan, in order to cover injuries sustained by the Yellows.[3] He was involved in 4 matches, starting 3 times.[2] After his return, he was unable to break into the first-team. At the end of the season he was released, and subsequently signed a two year contract for Cheltenham Town on May 15, 2007.[4]
