Ben-Hur (play)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ben Hur was an 1899 play starring William S. Hart (as Messala, not as Ben-Hur) and produced by Klaw & Erlanger. It was dramatized by W.M. Young based on the 1880 novel, Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ, written by Lew Wallace. Hart would eventually star as leading roles in silent films such as The Aryan in 1916, and become a silent screen cowboy hero.
