The advice in the song goes:
Remember compliments you receive. Forget the insults. If you succeed in doing this, tell me how. Keep your old love letters. Throw away your old bank statements.
I usually delete personal messages from the current page after I've replied to them. If anyone, including myself, cares to read them, they are in the edit history. But I've decided to keep some of the random praise I sometimes get, in a transparent attempt to make myself feel better and make myself look good.
Don't let this quirky affectation dissuade you from posting critical comments on my personal talk page. I want to know if you have a problem with my writing or my behavior, so I can explain myself, fix it, or apologize as needed. I just prefer to delete requests and criticism after I've made a satisfactory reply, lest all of it clutter up my personal space too much. Clutter prevention is also why these comments are on a page of their own.
Mary Schmich, please take note.
Love,
Beland
[edit] Praise
Hey, thanks for your work cleaning up the LGBT categories. They've been a mess for a while, and I think at one point I even promised to do it, but spaced the whole thing. Anyhow, just wanted to let you know that your efforts are appreciated. -Seth Mahoney 06:26, Feb 16, 2005 (UTC)
Your improvements on my first attempt at "bisexual culture" were excellent. Thanks. Jliberty 14:00, Feb 18, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] I'm glad to see you're working on cleaning up the Wikipedia: namespace.
This is just a small note of thanks and congrats to you for continuing to work on cleaning up the Wikipedia namespace. I just came across your updates to the Wikipedia Namespace WikiProject, and wanted to thank you. I havn't been able to put much time into that recently, so it's good to see it's still being worked on. JesseW 20:52, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] lots of edits, not an admin
Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. If you're at all interested in becoming an admin, can you please add an '*' immediately before your name in this list? I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to puruse this list. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 23:02, Jun 11, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks for your work on Wikipedia!
I noticed that you have done an incredible amount of work on Wikipedia doing a lot of corrections, fixes, and cleanup. I hereby award you the Working Man's barnstar for your hard work performing chores and duties on Wikipedia. Thanks! — Stevey7788 (talk) 21:22, 19 July 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Hey there
I saw your request on WP:RFPP (which I did, by the way) and thought to myself: That's odd. I mean, why is Beland, one of our best janitors, not an admin? Do you know why Beland is not an admin? Because if it's just to do with a nomination, I'd be pleased to nominate you myself. Please :) Dmcdevit·t 06:27, August 26, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Admin nomination
Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Beland. How embarassing. -- Beland 20:29, 28 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Congrats
It's kind of traditional for the promoting bureaucrat to congratulate their newly minted admin and thereby impart some sagely advice. Or at least notify them they've been promoted. I don't know where Ed's head is, but let me be the first to congratulate you then. That RFA was just what I expected it would be. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions about your new admin tools! Dmcdevit·t 19:58, September 4, 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for your congratulations, and thanks for your nomination. I'm already finding my new powers surprisingly handy. "Hey I can do that myself now!" -- Beland 04:48, 5 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Congrats
Sorry for the lateness of this, but congrats on becoming an admin! --Kbdank71 16:15, 9 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] End of the World
Hey, great work there. I added those Native American, Islamic and Zoroastrian prophecies way back when. I hope you liked them. Anyway, have a Working Man's Barnstar for you work:

[edit] Wikipedia:Templates with red links
.
Thank you - your efforts are much appreciated! We'll surely be putting in fair labor to eliminate template redlinks, so these tools show what we've got rather than what we're missing! -- BD2412 talk 03:32, 5 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] What is wrong with you?
Dear Beland, you look like a perfect wiki guy - the best janitor, run the most helpful Pearle, created my beloved maintenance colab, now you are going to reorganize community portal (according to my ideas)... You seriously sound and look too good to be true. So before I complete fall in wiki-love, what is wrong with you? ;) Renata3 03:00, 25 October 2005 (UTC

Check back here - you are awesome!! --HappyCamper 03:40, 21 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] DYK
Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Rumor Control Center, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page. |
[edit] I am impressed
What a great way to keep your talk page uncluttered and current. And then the really wonderful advice on only keeping the love letters and praise! I love it!!! I've copied your explanations at the top of each talk page and set my talk page(s) up the same way. Remember: The greatest compliment is imitation! (Not much there on mine yet, but hey: What isn't yet, is bound to happen!) --Mmounties 21:15, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Barnstar!
I am moved to give you this barnstar after hearing about Wikipedia:Neglected articles. You do so much great work, I just thought it should be recognized. Feel free to move the award template wherever you like. JesseW, the juggling janitor 08:45, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thank You
Thanks for your thoughtful comments on the clothing and fashion articles. It's nice to know that someone out there is interested beyond the handful of us writing them. :-) - PKM 02:28, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Arbitrary thanks!
I just wanted to drop off a quick thanks for operating Pearle. I can see it's saved a lot of people a lot of tedious effort; not only does that free up editors for what they're supposed to be doing (editing), it increases the overall accessibility of Wikipedia, which I think is more important than most people would guess. Per your backlog, feel free to ignore this indefnitely; I'm just hoping it'll brighten your day, even if only a bit, when you eventually do get to it. Anyway, thanks! [edit] Thank you for the information
Regarding User_talk:Huji#How_can_I_help_more.3F, and as you didn't mention if you are watching my talk page, I would like to thank you very much, for your help.

[edit] Genetics
You're most kind, thanks. :) It's a great help for us at Medical genetic wikiproject. I try to work as useful as I can. We'll see, I can't count on too many participants, it's a tight topic. But this List of pages needing attention section lets us work harder. Thanks. :) NCurse work 08:21, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
