[edit] Division
I've changed the term "subsidiary" to "division", because Sympatico is merely a brand name; it's not a seperate entity. - quanta July 5/2004
Sympatico is refered to as a "Line of Business", if there are no objections Matthew 21:53, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Speed
Bell Sympatico is currently offering speeds of up to 6Mbps on it's Ultra plan for member's close enough to their various Central Offices. - Xakor August 21/2005 - Actually 6Mbps is only for business customers (for now). Sympatico is their residential service. - quanta 02:23, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
"These modems are backwards compatible with ADSL, and as such Sympatico caps them at 3 or 4 Mbit/s like any other modem." This sentence is a bit inaccurate since the modems aren't capped at all, only the profile set at the other end on the DSLAM card determines which speeds the modem will try to synchronize at. I did not dare modify the entry myself though.
[edit] Advert?
How is this page an advert..? I really don't think it is; I think it is reporting the what Bell Sympatico is and what services they offer. --Royalflight 01:56, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Although Sympatico undoubtedly merits an article. This article is unacceptable, it from the very start to finish goes about outlining every single services they provide. while they is nothing inherently wrong with that the article tends give perhaps more weight than to necessary to insignificant things, thus creating the advert like quality of article. I would suggesting comparing other ISPs for perspective. --sSb talk 02:15, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
As it stands, this page is not an encyclopedia entry, more like the front page to the company's website. Wikipedia is not a product catalogue for listing every single service the company offers. If people wish to know this (and be far more assured of accuracy and currency) they will look at the company's website. Listing prices, terms and product names, even as objectively as possible, makes the article look like it's little more than an advert. --Escape Orbit 23:02, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm minded to do a re-write on this page. As outlined above, it's looking more and more like a portal into Bell Sympatico's website, complete with carefully crafted tracking links. This page is an encyclopaedia entry for the company, not a product catalogue, or a branch of its customer services. A suitable link or two to their website is all it requires. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 18:10, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wikispam on this page
As discussed above, I have edited this page to remove the bulk of the product catalogue and marketing. Please, if you are the Bell Sympatico employee editing this page then refer to the article on Wikispam. Notably what it says there; "Wikispam articles are usually noted for sales-oriented language and external links to a commercial website." Your detailed listing of services within this article, concentrating on availability and price, along with multiple deep-links into the sales and customer support sections of your website, clearly constitutes Wikispam. If you can add further cited information about your company, then do so. But please stop adding detailed product information that is obviously only concerned with promoting your services. Also note that, due to Wikipedia's search engine policies, adding links here will not increase your site's ranking in search engines like google (for the very reason that it would otherwise encourage link spamming in Wikipedia). If you wish to discuss this further then please contribute to this page. Thanks. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 22:26, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Logo - Bell Sympatico.gif
Image:Logo - Bell Sympatico.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] SPEED, not what is advertised
Some customers have found using 3rd party speed tests that the actual available speed is no where near what they are paying for. Bell Sympatico customer service has advised that the lines are only capable of about 1.7 Mbit/s. When questioned why would anyone pay for a 5 Mbit or 7 Mbit service, the response is "UP TO". Can anyone find the source to this ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.201.173.189 (talk) 17:25, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Response
The line capability of 1.7 Mbit/s is only one person's line. EVERY single telephone line is different (for example, my line tests at 4.7 Mbit/s). The "UP TO" response is not hidden and is in every advertisement for Sympatico. There have been large-scale complaints in the past (see archives for French-language TV shows "La Facture" and "JE"). This edit seems to be from a disgruntled customer looking for some place to vent, and looking at this IP's contribution history, he's become quite good at it unfortunately. [edit] Response to above
For your information I personally have Rogers and never have had Bell Sympatico therefore I am not in anyway disgrunted. It is through research and reading. I am simply trying to get the truth out or at least spark discussion and awareness. Sounds like you work for Bell. 216.191.213.114 (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 13:19, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Not a Forum
This talk page is not a forum for discussing the merits of the company's products. It's for discussion on improving the article. Unless you can contributed notable and cited criticism of Bell Sympatico advertising of products then you have come to the wrong place. This is not the place to "spark discussion" or "get the truth out". --Escape Orbit (Talk) 13:34, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
