Was Beattie independent Labour or Northern Ireland Labour from 1943 to 1950? The wartime by-election truce did not extend to Northern Ireland and his shift to Irish Labour appears to have happened at the same time as the Belfast (all of part) branch's withdrawal from NILP in protest at its decision that it was pro Union. He was Northern Ireland Labour - sources that say "independent Labour" mean he wasn't an official candidate of the Great Britain Labour Party. Timrollpickering 18:28, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
