[edit] Merger of French Quarter

I proposed the merger because I'm dubious that San Francisco has a "French Quarter" that's distinct from Belden Place. It's not an entirely made-up cultural institution -- clearly there is a small history of French immigration and culture in SF and some sources on it. But I've lived in SF for years and never heard the term "French Quarter." The few articles I could find started with expressions like "If SF had a French Quarter it would be Belden Lane" or "San Francisco's French Quarter, the narrow one-block alley known as Belden Lane..." So I think they are one and the same thing. Even if there is some spillover to a small geographic area in downtown, the two articles are duplicative and if anything one should be a section within the other to avoid confusion. I have no personal stake in this and personally love this part of town. Thoughts?

Nobody objected for ten days so I have gone ahead and merged the articles. I tried to keep as much of the original material as possible but in keeping with encyclopedic tone. Also some expansion, clean-up, sourcing, etc. Wikidemo 01:33, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
