Belvoir St Theatre was founded in 1984 by Sue Hill and Chris Westwood at Belvoir St Surry Hills, and is the home of Company B. The building was purchased by a syndicate of people and there are currently 600 owners including: Robyn Archer, Gillian Armstrong, Peter Carey,Ruth Cracknell, Judy Davis, Mel Gibson, Max Gillies, Dorothy Hewitt, Nicole Kidman, Sam Neill, Dame Joan Sutherland, Patrick White, David Williamson, Neil Armfield, Mike Willesee, Colin Friels, and Gwen Plumb.[1]
The theatre was renovated during 2005-2006, and reopened in October 2006 with the Sydney season of "It Just Stopped" by Stephen Sewell.
