Belthangadi is the headquarters of Belthangadi taluk of Dakshina Kannada (South Canara) district of Karnataka state in India. Belthangadi taluk is mostly covered by forests. Western ghats provide scenic beauty, especially during the monsoon season that usually lasts from the month of June to September. Dharmasthala in Belthangadi taluk is the pilgrim centre for Hindus.

Belthangady is located at 13.98° N 75.3° E.[1] It has an average elevation of 685 metres (2247 feet).

As of 2001 India census,[2] Belthangady had a population of 7302. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Belthangady has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 53% of the males and 47% of females literate. 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
