The Belo Horizonte Metro is operated by CBTU / Metrobh, is currently 19 stations and 28.2 km long and currently carries about 145 thousand users per day.

The commercial operation of the Metro, Belo Horizonte started 1 August 1986. This season, came into operation six stations, linking Eldorado and Lagoinha, with 10.8 km of line and only three trains. In 1987, have been incorporated to stretch the Central station and two more trains. From 1994 eleven more trains were put into operation, where: one in 1994, five in 1995, four in 1996 and in 2000. The fleet of 25 trains was completed in December 2001. On November 7, 2005, the stations in operation now partial to function normally, ie trains directly below the station Eldorado to Vilarinho. Thus, it was concluded the Line 1.

The Metro, Belo Horizonte is currently formed by Line 1, which cuts from west to east Belo Horizonte. This system has commercial speed of trains from 40 km/h maximum speed is 80 km/h. A gauge is 1600 mm and feeding of trains is done by aerial catenary a voltage of 3000 VDC.
