It is home to the beautifully kept Belgian Gardens State School. It also has the Belgian Gardens Cemetery and is adjacent to Rowes Bay and many kilometres of beach front parkland. Before the advent of World War I, the suburb was named 'German Gardens'. However, during the course of the war the suburb was renamed to 'Belgian Gardens'[1].
