[edit] Staphylococus Aureus

A recent outbreak of Staphylococus Aureus has meant the postponing of numerous Elite League matches. The disease is attributed to an ASUB player who was in the Far East and has since spread to players from Coq Musan and ROC. In October of 2006 the three clubs in question suspended all matches and all training at all levels for ten days.

Staphylococus Aureus is contagious and transferred particularly through open wounds.

The Belgian Rugby Federation has sent out a warning to all clubs. The following precautions should be taken:

  • Any open cuts or wounds must be covered up
  • All new cuts or wounds must be cleaned with an antiseptic and covered
  • Changing rooms and kit should be thoroughly cleaned
  • Toiletries and towels should not be shared. Any sign of infection, swelling, spots, rash, boils, ulcers, fever etc. should immediately be reported to your doctor with a mention of the above situation.
