Belgacom TV was the first digital TV offered in Belgium. It was launched during summer 2005 by Belgacom.
A few months before the launch of Belgacom TV, the leading Belgian telecom operator took the whole market by surprise when it acquired the broadcasting rights for the Jupiler League, the Belgian first division football.
Technically, Belgacom TV is distributed via a telephone line with an xDSL solution.
In practice, Belgacom TV is the distribution platform on which the various elements that make up the telecom operator's offer are deployed. i.e., the Classic+ package of 70 channels, video on demand, thematic channel packages, and “11”, the channel that broadcasts all Belgian first-division matches.
Unlike traditional cable distributors, the distribution of Belgacom TV is not limited to a certain municipality or province. The Belgian operator’s TV offer will eventually cover the whole Belgian territory.
At the end of December 2007, there were 300.000 Belgacom TV subscribers.
