[edit] Townships

Salve, Beirne!
Saw your comment on my township project page about the map-it template. It's a good idea to add it. As I've never worked with it, if you'd add some info about it on the project page, I'd appreciate it. I looked at your Bath Township, Summit County, Ohio article: looking good. Ave! PedanticallySpeaking 17:20, Apr 28, 2005 (UTC)

Beirne,
Sorry about not replying sooner. I am gratified by your kind words about the townships project. I've looked at both the Summit County articles you mentioned, Northampton and Bath Townships and they're both very good work. PedanticallySpeaking 16:11, May 13, 2005 (UTC)

Salve, Beirne!
I am impressed with the contributions you have been making with Ohio's townships. You seem to be singlehanded filling in the northeastern corner of our fair state and I am delighted by it. I am also pleased to see SwissCelt's labors. He contacted me a few weeks ago about the Logan County article, I suggested he might do some townships his way. And he's been hard at work. Keep it up. PedanticallySpeaking 18:03, May 28, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks! I should be fair, though, point out that SwissCelt did Portage County so there are at least two of us working in this corner of the state. --Beirne 12:10, May 29, 2005 (UTC)

I wanted to let you know I put up a link on the township project page to the PUCO's mapping site [1]. It has incredible maps showing boundaries of telephone exchanges and a lot of other stuff. Really good site. PedanticallySpeaking 18:16, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

I finally remembered to look up about Akron and Streetsboro. There's an answer for you here: Talk:Paper_township#Definition_of_a_paper_township. PedanticallySpeaking 15:49, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Chinese Commercial Sites

Dear Beirne, How to define commercial site and academic site? I am in Microsoft. Our Msn.com is commercial site because it sells AD and 80% revenue is from AD although the content is free. My university site is stanford.edu. I do not think it is a commercial site, but an academic although it sells lessons and tuition is so expensive. Daniel

See my answer on the talk page of the article. --Beirne 23:21, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you for your help!

Beirne, I just wanted to let you know that your assistance on the Cleveland featured article nomination is most appreciated. It certainly wouldn't be a featured article without the help and contributions that you provided for the article. I promised EurekaLott a steak dinner the next time I'm up there, so I'll offer it to you as well. (I told EL that Morton's at Tower City would be just fine with me, but realistically we're probably talking the Waffle House or Denny's. :) ) Thanks again for all your help! Take care -- PacknCanes | say something! 13:00, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

I just did a morning of touch up so I don't think I deserve the "steak" dinner, but I'll be glad to join you two when you come up. --Beirne 13:52, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

"Turd central"? Must have been someone from Pittsburgh. :) (Couldn't resist...) PacknCanes | say something! 04:20, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] I-76

What the hell are you doing? Did you notice the lengths in the first paragraph? And the list of 3DIs right above the template you're adding? --SPUI (talk) 01:36, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Try reading Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Interstate Highways. It says the lengths go in a table and that the 3di template is to be included below the spurs list. The lenghts are only in the first paragraph because you put them there and removed the length table earlier. As I said in my edit summary, a standard format makes it easy to find information in articles on the same type of subject. --Beirne 01:43, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
It's easy enough to find the links to the spur routes; there is no reason to add the template. --SPUI (talk) 02:00, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Cleveland Portal

Calling all fellow Clevelanders! Be sure to regularly contribute and/or expand the new Cleveland portal now online! -- Clevelander 20:47, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] 3RR

You should probably read three-revert rule, which you have violated on Interstate 76 (east). I will not report you, but someone else may come across the revert war and do so, so you may want to revert your last edit. --SPUI (talk | don't use sorted stub templates!) 20:04, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

You don't report me and I won't report you. --Beirne 02:21, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
I haven't broken it. --SPUI (talk | don't use sorted stub templates!) 05:14, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Pittsburgh-area Interstates

Hholt01 08:17, 28 December 2005 (UTC) Hi Beirne, not sure why you choose not to have a profile page, but since you found it useful to delete a local transportation infobox I thought you might be interested in reading a local transportation story, brought to you by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, seems the Pittsburgh newspaper and the Pittsburgh hospitals are taking care of an interstate that has "nothing to do" with Pittsburgh, good thing Beirne knows better then a bunch of MD's and big city editors where I-70 does and doesn't go. I'll let you have some time to get back to me on the I-70, I-80, I-76, and I-79 comments because I would like to do this in the spirit of wiki, so just for you Beirne I will dismiss the MD's and pulitzer prize winning reporters for awhile. Hope we can come to a compromise on this matter.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05362/628813.stm

I moved your posting from my profile page to my talk page, where it belongs. I'll create a profile page when I feel like it. I read the Post Gazette article. It says the event took place in Washington County, which according to my Rand McNally atlas is south of Pittsburgh. None of the other Interstates listed pass through the city of Pittsburgh. The newspaper covers the wider area but the template was for Pittsburgh Interstates, not suburban Pittsburgh Interstates or Western Pennsylvania Interstates. Yes, I'm being a stickler or worse, but the criticism of Wikipedia that keeps coming up in the media is its errors. BTW, my actual wording when I deleted I-70 wasn't that it had "nothing to do" with Pittsburgh. What I said was "I70 doesn't pass through the city of Pittsburgh", an easy statement to verify. --Beirne 13:12, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Interstate 76 (east)

Greetings from Mediation Cabalist, Steven McCrary, I hope this message finds you well.

  1. I have posted a response to request for mediation at Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Cases/29_12_2005_Interstate_76_(east), and respectfully request that you read and then respond to any relevant issue that I may have overlooked, as appropriate.
  2. I am issuing a warning to you regarding violation of Wikipedia policy on edit wars. Please be aware of the policy.

Thanks and Happy New Year, Steven McCrary 15:37, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Good bye

I ended up in a protracted edit war and in the end just got sick of the whole thing. I took a week off from Wikipedia according to advice elsewhere on the site and I found that it feels nice not coming here and worrying about whether I'm going to have to quarrel more. I also found I have a lot more free time. Bye. --Beirne 01:41, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

So you are aware, it appears that the problems with {{routeboxint}} have been resolved... with a drastic makeover of it, but it appears to be a good compromise. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 18:31, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm sort of back. I'm mainly doing reverts but am not writing as much as before. --Beirne 04:45, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] vandalsim of akron article

removing info and claiming it does not exist when it does and has several related varified articles is vandalism. If you had good intent please look more into something before removing something you are unsure is false.

I've deleted Mickey Lee Brown a number of times and a few other non-famous people. I haven't claimed that anything doesn't exist. Mickey Lee Brown is apparently someone who was in a TV show whose article was deleted from Wikipedia because no one could prove that the show existed. --Beirne 00:20, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
the article was not deleted it still exists that is why i added it.

I've moved the discussion to Talk:Akron, Ohio.

[edit] Baking Powder

I just wanted to say good job on your continuing the research into the Dr Price and baking powder situation that we have been commenting about on the Vincent Price talk page. As you find out more please feel free to alter the passage to reflect what you learn. I guess ny desire to keep some mention of it in the article is based on how much fun it was for me to find the ad in the Leadville paper. What I failed to put in my note was that this created a unique (for me anyway) connection as I had seen Vincent's one man play as Oscar Wilde here in Denver in the summer of 79 and he performed it on the stage of the Tabor Opera House (the same one that Oscar spoke on!) in Leadville that same summer. I also want to apologize for any rudeness in my comment on the talk page and I hope that you are having fun tracking down the specifics of the situation. Editing at wikipedia has sent me off on a couple of research projects that I would never have thought that I was going to learn about before I started contributing here. Cheeers and happy editing. MarnetteD | Talk 23:29, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your good words. I appreciated your desire to look up patents and it inspired me to do some different types of searches. It looks like we will both know a lot more about baking powder by the time we're done. :-) --Beirne 00:14, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Summit County places

Beirne, a couple of things:

  • What was wrong with my giving the location of Montrose? If it's part of Fairlawn, change it to say so, but surely it deserves to have the township, county, state, and country named, especially in a format where the townships are called townships rather than sounding like towns.
  • Ghent: this is the natural pronunciation of Ghent; people don't go around saying Gu-Hent or something. If you want to have a pronunciation listed, you should use IPA. Nyttend 13:18, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
  • The location wasn't correct. It isn't a short distance from Fairlawn, it either includes Fairlawn or is adjacent to it, depending on your definition of Montrose. I personally think that listing each component is excessive but you are free to put them back in.
  • Pronouncing Ghent as Gent isn't obvious, so it is useful information in the article. People in the area know how to pronounce it but others may not. I know I've heard Ghent with a hard G from outsiders. You could have used IPA instead of deleting the hint, but I guess I'll go figure out how to do it now. --Beirne 15:53, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
By the definition of CDP, Montrose is not incorporated. Some might have been annexed, but some obviously isn't. Nyttend 13:21, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
What's your point? --Beirne 15:53, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
My point is that, since Montrose is part of a CDP, it can't be incorporated, since CDPs are unincorporated areas. As far as Ghent: I've never heard the placename pronounced as if it were "Jent"; I expected a stop, not a stop-with-spirant or whatever you call it how this place is properly pronounced. Thanks for correcting my misunderstanding! Nyttend 20:21, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
OK, I think we are set now. You new changes look OK and I learned how to do an IPA pronunciation. --Beirne 22:57, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Youngstown, Ohio

Hello Beirne. I am an editor who has been heavily involved with Youngstown, Ohio. It has been peer reviewed twice and is now up for its second FA nom. I have been quite attached to the article and feel that some fresh eyes to read it over would be beneficial. If you have some time, please give it a read and give some comments if you are able. The FA nom can be found here. As a near neighbor, your help would be appreciated. --Daysleeper47 (talk) 14:33, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
