[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Burningsaviours.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Burningsaviours.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 16:41, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Possibly unfree Image:Witchpress.jpg

An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:Witchpress.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the image description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Deiz talk 13:47, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Thor_band_photo.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Thor_band_photo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 12:47, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Asteroid (band)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Asteroid (band), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Asteroid (band) seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Asteroid (band), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 18:00, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Espanto del Futuro

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Espanto del Futuro, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Astroman futuro.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Astroman futuro.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 10:29, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Boris_soundtrack.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Boris_soundtrack.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:21, 28 January 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rockfang (talk) 00:21, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

I have created an article for the band Truckfighters. I noticed that you have that article noted on your userpage as "planned". Hopefully you can help improve the article. I also used some of the information you had listed at Truckfighters discography. Thanks! --PseudoChron (talk) 01:59, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Witchfinder soviet.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Witchfinder soviet.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 03:13, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Since I got so nice help with the picture last time...

Could I ask you for help on uploading of album cover pictures? I must have done something wrong here, so the image was deleted. Can you see by the page history what I did wrong and how to do it right? Thankfuly questioned by BiblioteKarin (talk) 20:43, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi! It looks like you need copyright info and a fair use rationale. When you upload it, select "album or single cover." It should have a little template to fill out in the comments section. Make sure that you link to the article that it will be used in. Give it a try and if you still have some problems/questions then let me know. BeastmasterGeneral 14:28, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Amebix redirection on the Arise article

Say someone visiting Wikipedia wishes to to know more about Sepultura's Arise or Amebix's Arise! They type "Arise" on the search box and they will find a disambiguation page which features both the Sepultura album and the Amebix record. So, is it really needful to include this:

It's double the disambiguation... Might be an overkill. What do you say? Musicaindustrial (talk) 12:54, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

I think it is necessary. I went to look up something on the Amebix album and put in Arise (album) only to come to the Sepultura album article. I then had to back track to get the DAB page. BeastmasterGeneral 14:24, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
OK, but... How many people for searching for the Amebix record will type "Arise (Album)"? Won't it be far more likely that they'll simply type "Arise"? Furthermore, if they know the proper spelling of the album's title, they'll simply type "Arise" with an added exclamation mark ("Arise!") to proceed directly unto the desired article. Don't you agree? Musicaindustrial (talk) 14:44, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
I think there may be a fair amount of people that will search for Arise (album). It is also possible that people wanting to link to Arise! will link to Arise (album) and see that it is blue and assume they have the right article. Since they have almost the same name and there is no artist listed in the title (like Arise (Sepulura album)) I think we should keep the DAB there. It doesn't hurt anything. BeastmasterGeneral 14:56, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
OK then, I won't press this matter further. Musicaindustrial (talk) 10:24, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ripper (band)

The article Ripper (band) has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the notability of the subject may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. NawlinWiki (talk) 19:26, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

This was moved from content that was placed on the Ripper DAB page. Thanks for giving more the 5 seconds to update it. BeastmasterGeneral 19:28, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Sorry -- about a week ago, I had to deal with the writer spamming this information on multiple pages all over WP. NawlinWiki (talk) 19:30, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Might be the same guy. I noticed something on one of the pages I watch - linking (externally) to the Ripper DAB page. I realized the guy didn't know what he was doing so I was trying to move this info onto its own page and hopefully give the guy a chance to make a decent article. I'm not sure if it will pass a notability challenge. He'll probably be back :) BeastmasterGeneral 19:34, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] User:RipperRizen

Hi, I noticed that you were involved with the creation (or recreation) of the article which is now at User:RipperRizen. The editor in question seems to be new and unsure of how to deal with our various Wikipedia policies, and is now treating his user page as an article, repeatedly adding links to it to the Ripper disambiguation page. If the article now in the user page appears ready to be an actual article, which is notable and sourced enough not to be deleted, could you help finish the process and get the article remade? I myself know nothing about this and don't know if the band is worthy of an article, I'm just doing disambiguation cleanup and stumbled across this. --Xyzzyplugh (talk) 18:14, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

He originally attempted to insert this information onto the disambiguation page. After cleaning that up I attempted to clean up the article and bring it up to WP standards, however I was unable to find many notable 3rd party sources. The band does not have much released and I feel that they would probably not survive an AFD at this point unless some notable sources are discovered. Coming to this conclusion I linked him to my sandbox (where I had been working on it) and told him that he could use it on his userpage without others interfering. He is a member of the band so I have informed him that there is a conflict of interest in him editing the page if it is moved into the main namespace. He seems to be content with it on his userpage. BeastmasterGeneral 18:51, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Hmm. The problem is, he continues to add the link to his user page to the disambiguation page. I did a google search and found [1], [2], [3], and [4], all interviews, but not the most reliable of sources. You sure this would likely get deleted? --Xyzzyplugh (talk) 20:59, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Not sure, but I think it might. Also, he seems to want control over the page which is going to cause problems with POV and COI edits. I checked my usual music/metal sources and found a little info but not enough to get more than 1 ref. With that and the lack of output I don't think it would stand up to a challenge. If I have some free time I'll see if I can track something down or at least try to explain why he can't link to his user page from the mainspace. BeastmasterGeneral 21:29, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
