There are over 50 public beaches in Jamaica. Some public beaches make an entry charge for use of facilities, and have security guards.
Many hotels on the sea front are able to control access to what is effectively their private beach. They may allow non-residents to gain access and also use their facilities for a fee. Where it has been possible to determine a fee for public use of this private access these are included in this category.
Jamaica boasts over two hundred miles of beaches. Of course, in that you have both good, better and some of the best- anywhere in the world!
Undoubtedly, the most popular of the beaches in Jamaica has to be the 7 Miles Beach in Negril. Seven miles you might ask? Yes, it is virtually seven miles of pure white sand beaches and spectacular views! Many dream to walk it!
The most historic of the beaches in Jamaica though is perhaps Doctor's Cave Beach in Montego Bay. It is recorded that in the 1920's, Sir Herbert Barker, an English osteopath, visited the beach and was impressed by the curative powers of the waters. He wrote an article which helped the beach become well known and gradually hotels were built nearby so that tourists could enjoy the beach. More about Historical sites in Jamaica on this page
In Oracabessa, St. Mary, lies the admired James Bond Beach. James Bond...you ask? Yes, James Bond. This is the very estate of the late Ian Flemming, the writer of OO7. Still, there are many other smaller beaches that, in my opinion, are just as great, except they are not as famous.
Most, if not all of the beaches host all the exciting watersports activities, and there is usually ample drinks and food right there from the restaurants and Beach Bars!
