Beaumont Hospital, is one of the largest and busiest major general hospitals providing acute care on the northside of County Dublin and has 620 beds. The hospital provides 24/7 emergency-call service for its catchment area of 250,000 persons. The hospital is managed by a Board of Management nominated by the Minister for Health and Children.

Dublin Molecular Medicine Centre co-ordinated a successful bid to the Wellcome Trust for a major clinical research centre to be led by Professor Dermot P. Kelleher comprising two elements:

A new centre will be built at St. James's Hospital, Dublin.
A network of new clinical research facilities linking the proposed new centre to existing centres at Beaumont Hospital, St. Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin and Mater Misericordiae University Hospital

Beaumont Hospital was planned and commissioned from 1978 to 1984 and represented an investment of £50 million. Its design is a direct replica of Cork University College Hospital.

It opened on November 29, 1987 following the closure of two smaller and older Dublin hospitals: The Charitable Infirmary, Jervis Street and St. Lawrence, also remembered as The Richmond. ^[1]

Beaumont is the principal undergraduate and postgraduate medical training and research centre associated with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland with whom it shares its campus. It also has a nurse training school in association with Dublin City University.
