Beau Dowler is a VFL footballer who was controversially selected at no.6 in the 2005 AFL Draft as a forward prospect for the Hawks. He was involved in a car accident late in 2005 which possibly limited his impact on the field, and struggled in his two games late in the 2006 season. His first game for 2007 came in round 17 against Kangaroos at Launceston's Aurora Stadium. Beau Dowler replaced Mitch Thorp, who had tightness in his calf after Friday's practice match. He finished with 8 disposals, including 2 goals. Dowler was dropped the following week when Lance Franklin returned from injury.

Career Stats: 3 games, 8 kicks (2.67 per game), 7 marks (2.33 per game), 6 handballs (2 per game), 14 disposals (4.67 per game), 2 goals (0.67 per game), 2 behinds (0.67 per game), 7 tackles (2.33 per game) and 3 Frees Against (1 per game).

He was originally recruited from the TAC Cup side, Oakleigh Chargers into the U/18 Championships. From there, he played for Vic Metro, and was named All Australian. Some in the media regarded him as a potential number one draft pick prior to the car accident. Miraculously Hawthorn drafted him after this accident rather than selecting promising talls Paddy Ryder and Mitch Clark who went with the following 2 picks.
