Beatles-Platz

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The world's first Beatles-Platz (German: Beatles square) is under construction in Hamburg, Germany at the place where the The Beatles started their career: On the crossroads Reeperbahn/Große Freiheit.

The place will look like an over dimensional record with a stroboscope rim, with more than 100 high-tech square lights which are inserted into the ground, affords a lightshow programme as well as special underground works. Also inserting the high-quality steel plates (bands) with song texts of the Beatles, into the actual record grooves of the monument, are a huge challenge to both, the manufacturers as well as the construction companies. Last but not least the concrete pavement of the Platz will be covered with a luxurious and a long lasting layer of black granite.

Initiators of the public/private-partnership are Stephan Heller (General Manager and Programme Director of radio station Oldie 95), Uriz von Oertzen (Hi-Life Entertainment) and Frank Otto (Media Manager). The 540.000 Euro-project is sponsored by Beatles-fans around the world, local investors and the city of Hamburg. Opening ceremonies for the Beatles-Platz are planned for September 2008.
