Named for William Miller Beardshear (1850 - 1902), the 5th president of Iowa State University. It was originally built between 1903 to 1908 as Central Building and was planned to house:
- Mathematics department
- English department
- Botany department
- History department
- Modern language department
- President's office
- Secretary's office
- Treasurer's office
- Board of Trustees office
Beardshear Hall was given its current name in 1938. Today, Beardshear Hall is for administration and hold the following offices:
- President
- Vice-President
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Registrar
- Student financial aid
- Provost
