Bear Country
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bear Country was one of the lands at the Disneyland Resort in California.
[edit] History
The Bear Country area existed just beyond the Haunted Mansion on the former Indian Village site. It was created specifically for the Country Bear Jamboree, which opened March 4, 1972. It lasted until 1988, when the land was retitled Critter Country in order to incorporate the many other animals in the Splash Mountain attraction.
The size of four football fields, Bear Country featured 265 trees, including redwoods, pines, birches, and evergreens, used to re-create of the Great Northwest. To go along with the theming, its slogan was "A Honey of a Place." The entire project cost $8 million.
[edit] Attractions
For years, Bear Country's only attraction was The Country Bear Jamboree and The Hungry Bear Restaurant. In 1984 and 1986, The Country Bear Christmas Special and The Country Bear Vacation Hoedown were added. Then in 1988, Splash Mountain was erected in the area, necessitating a name change to Critter Country.
