Contents

[edit] Characters

  • Barney - a TV presenter for the BBC who lives in a flat with Nev.
  • Nev (Nevvy to Crazy Keith) - a small, blue, puppet bear who likes ice cream and his snuggly ducky duck duck. He has patches in places and is missing part of his ear, due to Bandit the cat trying to eat him. The little bear has trouble with pronouncing certain words and when scared or intimidated, he growls, just like a real bear would. He is friends with Barney, Beatrice, Crazy Keith and Postie and has a slight rivalry with Mr Prank and Bouncer Boy.
  • Crazy Keith - an illegal immigrant koala who lives under the floor boards with his mice friends the squealers (Andy Prank and Bouncer Boy don't know he is there).
  • Beatrice (Beetroot to Nev) lives in another flat next door to Barney and Nev who works in Mr Prank's ice cream van. Barney has a crush on her. She is apparently still at college.
  • Mr Andy Prank (Mr Angry Pants to Nev) also lives in a flat next door to Barney and Nev and he owns an ice-cream van. He is the caretaker of the block of apartments the main characters live in. He is the villain in the programme. Whenever around or near Nev, he sneezes, as Nev sets of his allergy.
  • Bouncer Boy (Bouncey Belly to Nev) is the nephew of Andy Prank. He has a cat called Bandit on his arm at most times.
  • Postie - a postwoman who delivers letters in the area and has a crush on Mr Prank, although her feelings for him aren't reciprocated.

[edit] Recurring characters

  • Uncle Rupert - Barney's uncle who is the owner of the block of flats, Barney has a picture of him in his flat that seems to change facial expressions.
  • Good and Bad Ducks - two ducks, sometimes seen with a halo and horns respectively, who act as Nev's good and bad side and who sometimes agree on what to do. The whizzing sound they make when they come into view is from second life, an online computer game that lets you live a second life
  • PC Morse a policeman in the area of Blackpool who doesn't seem to like Mr Prank, due to Nev or Keith always snitching on him when they mistakingly think he's done (or going to do) something illegal.

[edit] One-time characters

  • Pirate Doug - a pirate who delivers a treasure hunting disc from Barney's uncle rupert and an amulet to Nev.
  • Robot Rat Catcher - a robot designed to catch rats (obviously) who is called in by Angry Pants after Keith steals his ice cream.
  • Mr Go-go-ices - Mr Prank's rival who he actually attempts to sell his double-chewy-honey-gooey ice cream recipe to.
  • Go-go-ices Monkey - a man dressed as a monkey who works for Mr Go-go-ices (see above).
  • Gordon Ramshorn - an ice cream chef who reviews Mr Pranks ice cream, his name is obviously a reference to Gordon Ramsey.
  • Marvin the Mad Clown - a silent clown burglar who was responsible for the robberies in the area.
  • Sergeant Slappy - an official from the Clown Prosecution Service who was looking for Marvin and knew that when Nev didn't laugh at him that something was up.
  • The Wig - Mr Prank's new wig who is stealing everything without everyone realising.
  • Leticia Westways - estate agent to Mr Rupert Silverspoon.
  • Tony Durrell - friend of Rupert
  • Ice cream delivery man - delivers nine large boxes of ice cream to Barney's flat

[edit] Background

The action of Bear Behaving Badly is centred on an apartment block owned by Barney's wealthy uncle Rupert Silverspoon. There are three flats on the ground floor. Barney and Nev live in Flat 1, Beatrice lives in Flat 2, and the caretaker, Mr Prank, lives in Flat 3. There are at least two more flats upstairs. A door under the stairs leads down to the boiler room.

Barney is a children's television presenter. He seems to be quite environmentally friendly because he doesn't own a car and instead travels everywhere by tricycle. Barney and Beatrice share a mutual affection, though sometimes Barney is a bit shy when talking to her.

Mr Prank has an obsequious attitude towards Barney whom he frequently addresses as "Mr Barney, Sir." This feigned respect is on account of the fact that Barney's uncle is his employer. In addition Prank runs his own ice cream business from his ice cream van which is often seen parked outside the apartment block. He is allergic to Nev's blue fur but pretends to like him when Barney is nearby. As soon as Barney is out of sight Prank is nasty to Nev and makes his life a misery. Sometimes Nev retaliates by snarling, blowing a raspberry at, or even kissing Mr Prank on the nose and causing him to sneeze.

Nev has a favourite cuddly toy which he calls his Snuggly Ducky Duck Duck. He also likes to have plastic ducks floating in the water when he has a bath. Despite starring in a programme called Bear Behaving Badly, Nev usually tries to do the right thing, and only misbehaves as a response to difficult circumstances or situations. He likes ice cream, jam and sweets.

[edit] Episodes

A Right Pair of Pants: Barney asks Nev to look after a pet tarantula spider named Bubbles. Mr Prank wants to impress his 'rich' brother, Martin Prank, who is visiting that day. When Bubbles crawls into Martin's pants, Martin proves he's not quite the fearless adventurer he pretended to be.

Bin Man Nev: It's Beatrice's birthday and Barney has invited her to his flat for a birthday breakfast. She's not too impressed with the food or the flat tidiness, so Barney and Nev decide some cleaning up is in order.

Blinga Stinga: Barney's great-aunt Agatha has left him a valuable ruby ring. Mr Prank is hoping to become rich by selling Beatrice's double-chewy-honey-gooey ice cream recipe to Mr Go-Go Ices, pretending that it's an old and closely guarded Prank family secret recipe. Prank needs some of the ice cream for Mr Go-Go Ices to taste, but without any left he has to pay Beatrice triple wages to make some up. And without any honey around, those bees which have been buzzing around the flat all day could provide the solution.

Bunfight at the Ice Cream Corral: Nev is covered with flour, having been up all night baking buns. Mr Prank arrives back from a trip to the USA, finds his stock of ice cream missing and blames Nev. Crazy Keith joins forces with Nev in a western style bunfight showdown against Sheriff Prank and Deputy Bouncer Boy.

Celebrity Ice Cream Chef: Nev and Keith have stolen Andy Prank's post, but Barney finds out and makes Nev deliver it by hand. The letter is from the famous ice cream chef Gordon Ramshorn, who will be coming that same day to taste Mr Prank's ice cream. Mr Prank hopes to win the coveted Five Gold Wafer award.

Clown Law: Mr Prank has increased security measures in the apartment block after hearing news about a spate of burglaries in the area. Police believe Marvin the mad clown is responsible, but with a secret party being planned for Mr Prank's 10 years of service and a mad clown on the loose, confusion is bound to reign.

Enter Mr Angry Pants Left: Barney is short of an actor to play in his panto production of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. Mr Andy Prank offers to take the part but has difficulties remembering his lines. Meanwhile Keith and Nev are attempting to beat the world record for the tallest jam and sock tower.

For Sale: Uncle Rupert has fallen on hard times and needs to sell the apartment block to raise some cash quickly. When Crazy Keith discovers a rare gold coin deep under the floor, he and Nev hatch an idea to stop the sale. Mr Prank has his own ideas.

Genie of the Lamp: Mr Prank believes three wishes from an Aladdin's lamp could be the answer to all his problems. Crazy Keith avoids discovery by pretending to be the genie of the lamp, but can he get away with the deception?

Hair Today: Mr Prank's wig arrives in the post and he's anxious to try it out, pretending that his hair grew back overnight and talking like a teen from the 1970's. Caretaker Prank's new wig seems to be more lifelike than he expected, gobbling things in its path. Nev and Mr Prank have to reluctantly team up to catch the menacing mischievous hairpiece.

Holiday: Nev and Barney are excited about their approaching holiday abroad. Mr Prank is very anxious to see them off so that he can use the empty flat for ice cream storage space and increase his business. But when Nev forgets to empty clothes pockets before using the washing machine, the passports and tickets are destroyed and they have to stay at home. What will happen to Mr Prank's ice cream delivery?

Homeless and Angry: Nev floods caretaker Prank's flat and Barney decides the right thing to do is to have Angry Pants stay with them while it is drying out. Needless to say Nev isn't best pleased at the idea.

Magic Box: The Great Marvelino's trunk is mistakenly delivered outside Barney and Nev's flat. Nev accidentally magics Barney away, and mayhem follows as Bouncer Boy lets his imagination run riot with Marvelino's magic wand.

Marathon Nev: Barney is taking part in a charity fun run, but Nev is too lazy to join him. Barney asks Mr Prank if he knows any fitness trainers for Nev and this gives Prank an idea - he'll use Nev to power his broken ice cream making machine. Before long Nev regrets not having joined Barney on the fun run.

Mr Ice Cream Head: When Mr Prank finds out that he's losing business to Farp Farp Ices he takes up Beatrice's suggestion of making a TV advert to revive sales. Prank gets his nephew, Bouncer, to dress in a weird costume and play a character called Mr Ice Cream Head, but Nev and Keith think the advert needs more of a 'reality' touch to it, and add in some secret filming of their own.

No Joke: Postie delivers a parcel to Mr Prank. It is a super-deluxe practical joke kit from Mr Wonky's Joke Shop which Bouncer Boy had been persuading his uncle to buy for a birthday present. Bouncer is dying to try out his joke kit, and inveigles Barney into allowing him to stay in the flat to play with Nev. Bouncer Boy's idea of play is too much for Nev, and Nev decides to take Keith's martial arts course to help in the fight back.

Pets Win Prizes: Crazy Keith plans to win money in a pet competition and prove how cool Koalas are as pets. But Mr Prank also wants to win the large cash prize, and persuades Barney to allow Nev to be his pet in the competition. Nev is put through a gruelling training routine.

Portrait: Mr Prank is doing some redecoration in the apartment block, but when paintings of Nev's face appear on a wall the caretaker is furious and accuses Nev of causing the damage. Keith, posing as Balderdash Holmes, the world's greatest detective, comes to the rescue and quickly finds out who was really responsible for defacing the wall.

Raffle Hassle: Barney and Nev are shivering because Mr Prank's new ice cream freezer is freezing everything in sight. Nev turns off the freezer and all the ice cream melts, ruining Mr Prank's business. Barney wants to help out Mr Prank and comes up with the idea of holding a benefit raffle for him - first prize will be Mr Prank being a personal butler for a day. Postie can't resist a chance of winning Mr Prank for the day.

Robot Rat Catcher: Crazy Keith is mistaken for a rat, and Mr Prank assumes that the rat is responsible for stealing his ice cream. Prank purchases a 'hi-tech' Robot Ratcatcher 5000 to sort the problem. Before long it seems the robot isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Rumble in the Jungle: Mr Prank backs his ice cream van into Barney's tricycle and then blames Nev for causing the damage. Beatrice, Keith and Nev arrange a jumble sale to help Barney with the £150 it will cost to repair the trike. Bouncer Boy donates a pile of books to the sale without realising that Andy Prank's top secret diary is hidden amongst the books. The diary could be worth a lot of money to one potential buyer!

Strictly Dumb Dancing: Barney has been nominated for a TV award and notices that he might be expected to dance at the awards ceremony party. He needs to learn to dance, and quickly. Mr Prank is trying to help Bouncer Boy with his maths homework, but the dance music emanating from Barney's flat doesn't help. Keith thinks there are termites in the floor boards.

That Sinking Feeling: Mr Andy Prank, tries to fix the sink in Barney's flat. Crazy Keith's new fountain has caused the sink drain to malfunction, making a mess everywhere especially over Mr Prank.

Treasure Hunt: Nev takes delivery of a pirate-o-gram. Pirate Doug has three clues sent by Uncle Rupert which lead to treasure hidden in Barney's flat. Mr Prank greedily imagines what he could do if he found the treasure first, and plans to stop the others.

Unhappy Halloween: Hallowe'en is approaching and Barney is explaining 'trick or treat' to Nev. Mr Prank arrives and Nev throws the treat sweets at him. Mr Prank decides to get his own back by saying the flat is haunted. Mr Prank engages Bouncer Boy to pretend to be the ghost of a headless postman. Nev and Keith overhear the scheme and turn the tables on Mr Prank and Bouncer.

Valentine: When Barney's one and only Valentine card is from his mum, Nev and Keith plan to cheer him up with a bit of deception. Mr Prank hears Beatrice reading out the words on a Valentine card and he jumps to the wrong conclusion.
