[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Ks-gl-seal.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Ks-gl-seal.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. [edit] Adoption

Hello, Bdhook. I see you're looking to be adopted. I would be happy to adopt you. I've been on Wikipedia for about seven months, and have made more than three thousand edits. In addition to my edits to articles (which I try to keep as the majority of my edits), I've also been involved in a variety of different Wikipedia administrative processes (including WP:WQA, WP:BLPN, WP:AFD, WP:PROD, and WP:RFC). I have a prtty solid grasp of Wikipedia policy, and know where to look if there's ever something I don't know. On the downside, I'm not really very good at using Wikimarkup to make pages look pretty, so if that's a major focus you may want to look elsewhere. In any event, if you're interested in being adopted by me, just drop me a line on my talk page. Sarcasticidealist 00:26, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Entirely understood. Regardless of who winds up adopting you, please don't ever hesitate to ask if you ever think that there's anything I could help you with. Happy editing! Sarcasticidealist 03:35, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Formatting & code troubles

I'm having some issues figuring out a couple of issues related to a template I've created. For reference, the page I've been working on (and also created) is Grand Lodge of Kansas.

  1. The "edit" links for the sections are getting pushed to the bottom of the infoboxes. I know this isn't supposed to be the case. I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.6 just in case that is relevant.
    • Add FixHTML template around infobox includes
  2. I would like to do a conditional Category include as a part of the template. If the "jurisdiction" argument is included in the infobox, then the category should include the Jurisdiction as an argument to the category, otherwise it should just use a generic category reference (i.e., with no argument).
    • I'm sure there is a better way, but I resorted to using a "long if" expression and it seems to have worked. See Template:Infobox Grand Lodge for example.
  3. I've also been fighting with infoboxes to get a consistent size. It seems various users create infoboxes using different methods, but even when two infoboxes have the same code setting the width (e.g. style="width: 230;") the width will still vary wildly. Any tips for this?
    • No solution yet, seems to be due to the width of words in the infobox forcing the size to be larger than desired.

[edit] Looking to be adopted + question

I'm looking for someone to mentor me as I dive further into some Wikipedia editing, and I was wondering if you might be up for it.

I also have a question about some formatting issues I've been running into. See Grand Lodge of Kansas. The edit links are being kicked to the bottom of the page by the infoboxes, and I'd like to correct this.

Hi, how are you?
Unfortunately I can't mentor you at this time, as I'm going away at various times over the two weeks or so. I've also looked at the page you mentioned, and the problem seems to be fixed at the moment, unless it's a difference in browsers?
Sorry I couldn't help you further- CattleGirl talk 11:54, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption

Let's Work Together

Hello there, Bdhook. I noticed you're currently seeking adoption on Wikipedia. I've been around for a while, and I'd be happy to show you the ropes. (To learn more about me, visit my userpage.) If you'd like to have me as a mentor, just click here to leave me a message, and we'll take it from there.

Welcome to Wikipedia! – Scartol · Talk 17:43, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

PS. I notice you're looking for help with formatting and markup. I've got some experience in those fields, so if you let me know more specifically what you're looking for, I might be able to tell if I have the wisdom you seek. – Scartol · Talk 18:02, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

I actually didn't expect to hear back from you, since two weeks had gone by. In that time, I've adopted three other people, and I generally only like to take on three at once. However, one of them appears to have gone AWOL, so let's go ahead with it. If I get swamped, well then I'll be swamped.
What happens next is up to you and your preferred style of learning. Please select one of these options:
  1. I give you specific assignments, based on your interests and skills. I keep tabs on your progress, offer assistance when needed, and evaluate the end result.
  2. I make myself available in a very laid-back way, as you dive in feet-first. I watch your contributions as they appear, and offer comments where necessary. No assignments, no formality.
I'm very comfortable either way, so just let me know and we'll proceed from there. Cheers! – Scartol · Talk 01:46, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Your First Assignment

Before we get to the first project itself, let me encourage you to add a link to your talk page in your signature. It's not a big deal, but it's easier for people to contact you if you have one. Please read this section of the help page for instructions.

Okay then, here it is – Your first assignment. Since you are a member of WP:SCH, I've prepared this for you:

Charter School of Wilmington is listed in that project as a potential Good Article. Your assignment is to :

  1. Add information from this article (using proper citations, of course), and
  2. Fix this section, as it appears to be a copyright violation of the "copy and paste" variety. The information in the article is good, but it needs to be summarized and not duplicated – and it needs to be properly cited as well.

Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions or difficulties, and please drop me a line when you finish. – Scartol · Talk 20:07, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

I removed #2 above, since apparently I'm a moron and the website copied Wikipedia, not the other way around. Please do add info from the article in #1, though, and I'll find a different part 2 for your first assignment. – Scartol · Talk 12:25, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Checking In

Hello there, Bdhook. It's been almost a month since I've heard from you. Are you still interested in our adoption arrangement? If not, there are no hard feelings – just let me know. If I don't hear from you again in two weeks, I'll cross you off my list. Cheers. – Scartol • Tok 02:35, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
