That piece about grilling meat on top of shields with swords sounds like a popular myth. It's probably too romantic in style to be true. Are there any reliable historic sources to confirm that the Mongol warriors ever cooked like that? And no, BD's web site doesn't count. --Latebird 17:02, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

Also, wouldn't using your shield to cook like that cause the shield to become brittle and useless for battle? 144.226.230.36 21:05, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, the material would certainly suffer. That theory also assumes that their shields were made exclusively from iron, which seems unlikely. I was unable to dig up any specific info yet, but I would rather expect a composite construction of wood, metal, and possibly other materials like leather straps. --Latebird 21:41, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
