It is run over a distance of 2 miles 4½ furlongs (4,124 metres) on the New Course at Cheltenham Racecourse at the Cheltenham Festival in March. There are twelve hurdles to be jumped in the race. The race is a new addition to the Cheltenham Festival and will be run for the first time in 2008. It is named in honour of David Nicholson (1939-2006) who was British jump racing Champion Trainer in the 1994/95 and 1995/96 seasons and who both rode and trained winners at the Cheltenham Festival during his career. ==See also== * Horseracing in Great Britain * List of British National Hunt races
