Thanks for responding. It may well have been edited out of our guidelines since the last time I looked at them; always a danger around here. It still gets mentioned in discussions at Wikipedia:Peer review and Wikipedia:Featured article candidates. Obviously, it doesn't seem to be something most people are all that concerned about.
