[edit] Why was this bridge built?
Okay, need some help here. Why was this bridge built? The Memorial Bridge, built in 1928, seems capable of handling traffic from Quincy to... all points west. Truckers going east from Kansas City would generally use U.S. 36, not U.S. 24, and cross the river downstream. Is there something to the west of Quincy that I just don't know about, or do more farmers transport corn over the bridge than I thought? —Rob 18:16, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
- As things now stand, the Bayview Bridge only carries traffic west from Illinois to Missouri and the Memorial Bridge only carries traffic east from Missouri to Illinois. Both bridges seem to be relatively busy, with much Quincy, IL - West Quincy, MO traffic foming through as well as those just passing through. Though gas prices vary, Missouri gas prices are often cheaper and many travel from Quincy to West Quincy simply to buy gas. Though this may only be a small amount of the traffic, there is plenty traffic on both bridges. omnijohn 23:00, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
