Alright. I've done what I can. Unfortunately, the few books I have on me right now - Sansom & Turnbull - do not mention the battle in much detail. I do have a question for Ineffable3000 - Who is "Moroushi"? What's his surname? I cannot find any reference to a Moroushi, and knowing his family name would be of great use. Thank you. I did a lot of looking on the Japanese Wikipedia and there is no moroushi. The most likely error is morouji, and there are two entries. One is an early Heian Fujiwara, which is obviously centuries away, but the other is more intriguing. Hosokawa Morouji Hikoshiro fought in the Genkō War (1331-1333) and Nakasendai no Ran (1335). Alas, he died in 1348, which was five years prior to the Battle of Yawata.　Is it possible that the date of the battle was 1335 instead of 1353?

The Japanese Wikipedia article on Yawata has only the briefest of history sections, with events going back to the Meiji. The link to the city's web site didn't turn up anything either. Nor did the Japanese articles on the years 1353 or 1335, or ja:南朝 (日本).

Sansom writes briefly about the loyalist army taking Yawata to use it as a base of operations from which to launch attacks on Kyoto - which they do on the following page of his book, in 1353-1355. ... But he doesn't go into any detail at all as to the battle itself; he doesn't tend to for most battles. Beats me. LordAmeth 12:00, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
