[edit] How to handle images

I found a nice image of modern Teruel put out by a tourist entity in Aragon. It is really helpful as it shows the terrain and the walls around the town. The terrain view is really helpful because the ridge it shows actually may be Teruel's Tooth. I need to know how one determines the rights to use the photo and how to load it into the article

Many thanks,

[edit] Vademecum

To upload images, first make sure you have a copy on your hard drive. Then click the "upload file" button in Wikipedia. It will prompt you for what you want to name it (on the Wiki--be careful, you cannot change this name once you make it) and then it will prompt you for the location, allowing you to navigate to it on your computer. Preferred formats are .jpg and .png (png especially if black and white, or a line drawing). .jpg is fine for photos. Then you have to indicate a license from the drop-down list: anything from the early/mid 1930s is likely to be public domain, but one of us can help you with the details if you aren't sure. Then to put the image in the article, the easiest way is to copy the image formatting from another article you like, and then just change the image and caption name (copy and paste is always the best way to learn code ...) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by GenghisTheHun (talkcontribs) 15:31, 17 February 2007 (UTC).

[edit] map image

I loaded the map image of the battle by copying it from Wikimedia. It has a GNU license and I evidently get it correctly on the drop down window. Some robot removed the image and I restored it with this explanation. I hope a human looks at this. Many thanks.

[edit] images

I added the new images in the article from Polish language and Spanish language Wikipedia articles on the Battle of Teruel or Spanish Civil War. So before you delete, look before you leap.

[edit] Still a stub?

Is this article still a stub?

[edit] Numbers of defense force

After studying several sources I think I made sense of the numbers of the defense force. None of the sources were clear on the subject, but the best evidence seems to be that the original defense force in the entire Teruel salient was about 9,500 defenders including civilians. When they retreated into the town itself, the defensive garrison was about 4,000 and half were civilians.

The Spanish Language Wikipedia article on the Battle of Teruel is close to this number. That article puts the defensive garrison at 3,900 with 40% civilians and the starting defense force at 10,000 with civilians defending. I cannot read Polish so I am not able to translate that article on Wikipedia.
