Could somebody please thoroughly explain to me exactly how the Delian league won this battle.

This article has some sort of an error in it. First of all it says that when Cimon dies in the siege his fleet is commanded by Anaxicrates, which happens to be the persian commander...(WHAT!) In addition I have seen from other sources that this battle was in fact this battle was a disaster for the Greeks. We also have to consider the objective of Cimon and the delian league in this battle. Was it not to break Egypt off from the oppresion of Persia. We know that first of all Egypt still remains under persian rule until Alexander III. Further weren't the Greeks pushed back from the Nile once the persian navy arrived. I wonder if this article was written by a Greek. Hmmmmm.

My final bit of proof comes from this site called reference.com it says in quote:

In 454 BC the Athenian-led Delian League lost a fleet in an unsuccessful attempt to aid an Egyptian revolt against Persia.

• First of all Anaxicrates is a Greek name not a Persian and Anaxicrates was the second in order Greek admiral behind Cimon.Secondly the result is upon the success of the fleet and not upon the success of the whole expedition.For example Germans didn't won battles in the Russian front(in WW2) because they were defeated in the end;;;;Thirdly Athenians won and as a result there is a Greek phrase which is translated asThe Athenian general even dead wins(=ο Αθηναίος στρατηγός και νεκρός ενίκα)Eagle of Pontus (talk) 16:03, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cimon KIA

This article suggests that Cimon was KIA in Salamis Cyprus. From what I remember, Cimon wasn't even at this battle because he died in an unsuccessful siege at Citium. It was only Anaxicrates who later after their defeat in Citium decided to attack Salamis. Should I make these edits on the article. I suppose then a "Citium battle" page must also be created.--Arsenous Commodore 19:02, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
