[edit] Foote vs Grant
When I updated this page with more detail, I included Grant as the primary commander. Although this battle is considered a naval battle, until October 1862 the river gunboats were owned and manned by the War Dept; only the officers were from the Navy. Grant, as the District [of Cairo] commander, was the operational owner of the campaign. Hal Jespersen 16:16, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] edits May 16
I deleted the uncited information added on May 16 regarding the neutrality of Kentucky. The footnotes for this paragraph cite references that indicate the first violation of neutrality was the seizure of Columbus. All Civil War references with which I am familiar make the same point. If you have a secondary source that claims the contrary, you can add it, but not without adjusting the footnotes for the paragraph. Hal Jespersen (talk) 01:14, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
