This is a difficult entry to write with a NPOV, especially since it is about recent events. The sentence Several of these attacks were on minarets of mosques, which were used as fighting positions in violation of the laws of warfare. needs clarifying. Religious buildings are mentioned in the 1977 protocols additional to the 1949 Geneva conventions (which the US didn't ratify), but I don't think they are mentioned in the 1949 Geneva conventions (which the US did ratifty). I have changed 'private mercenaries' to 'contractors' for the time being, as I can find no reliable evidence for the former being true. Betelgeuse 21:13, 14 May 2004 (UTC)
