Talk:Batatyachi Chaal

[edit] What ???
I feel this is really funny: "Batatyachi Chaal" is not Potato Tenement! It means "Potato skin" The word चाल is Marathi for Chawl or tenement, चाळ , to my knowledge is vegetable or fruit skin . Possibly the error cam about becaus both will be transliterated to Roman script in the same way :" Chaal".
I could be wrong , I haven't seen he play . But in the context of potato , "tenement" seems less credible than skin. I am changing the name , please let me know if I am wrong--Deepak D'Souza (talk • contribs) 10:29, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- OK I guess my change was a bit premature. I have reverted it. Or maybe the great Pu La Deshpande was indulging in word-play! --Deepak D'Souza (talk • contribs) 10:35, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- Hi. I am marathi and I have seen the play several times. The name is indeed "Batatyachi Chaal". In marathi, चाल means walk, while चाळ is tenement or Chawl. While the skin (of say a vegetable) would be साल. A copy of the play should be viewable on youtube, should anyone be interested -- Mayuresh 10:00, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
