From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Currency introduced by the Japanese authorities during World War II. Denominations shown are 5 cents, 10 cents, 50 cents, 1 dollar and 10 dollars. It seems likely but is not known for certain by the uploader (User:Jasper33) that this currency was that introduced by the Japanese across all of Borneo after their invasion in 1941, and would have been in use until the Japanese surrenders across the territory in August and September 1945.

These particular notes were in the possession of a civilian couple interned at Batu Lintang camp, Kuching, Sarawak, Borneo during World War II. The couple were resident in North Borneo before being transferred to Batu Lintang, so may have first used the notes there; alternately they may have earned the money whilst in the camp.
