Batz-sur-Mer is a commune of the Loire-Atlantique département in France.

In 945, the Duke of Brittany, Alain Barbe-Torte founded a priory in Batz-sur-Mer, dedicated to saint Guénolé. The Benedictines developped the region, devoting themselves to cultures and maintenance of the salt ponds.
In 1834, Balzac stayed in the commune, with Laure de Berny, at the Calme Logis of Madame de La Valette. He wrote there Un drame au bord de la mer[1], which take place in Le Croisic.
