[edit] Professional career

[edit] Early years

He has regularly played for the Turkish national team in junior levels. In 2006, he signed a professional contract with Beşiktaş.[7] In the beginning of his second professional year at the team, he made his Turkcell Super League debut against another Istanbul team Kasımpaşa on the 2nd matchday of the Turkish Football League 2007-08 Season as he had been substituted on for Burak Yılmaz at half time [8]. That game made him the youngest player ever to appear in a Turkcell Super League game at the tender age of just 16 years and 115 days. Just 6 days later, he scored his first goal for Beşiktaş on August 25th against Gaziantepspor in the 95th minute and made a big contribution to his team's 3 points.[9] He also became the youngest ever player to score in the Turkcell Super League in the league's history.

He made his UEFA Champions League debut on 29 August 2007 in Beşiktaş' 2–0 win over FC Zurich, making a substitute appearance in the 92nd minute, coming on for Mert Nobre.[10]

On 3 November 2007, Besiktaş played against Fenerbahçe and Batuhan came on as a substitute for Koray in the 83rd minute. He missed a very crucial chance for Kara Kartallar during the additional time (90+3) as he picked up a lose ball and faked the keeper Volkan, subsequently he tried to shoot despite having had two team-mates unmarked by his side and in the end he could not generate enough power on his shot and Edu cleared the ball away. Beşiktas lost the game with a final score of 2–1 to Fenerbahçe as Sarı Kanaryalar overtook Beşiktaş by ine point.[11] His reaction was very unexpected after the match. He said:

"I would rather score and become the king than assist Higuain."

This incident and some additional misconducted behaviours caused him to be suspended from the senior squad.[12]

During the 2007/2008 mid-season transfer window, Beşiktaş tried to make a deal with F.C. Köln the loan of Batuhan,[13][14] however the transfer due to rule of minimum transfer age which is determined by each football federation by FIFA approval.[15] According to DFB, a football player must be over 18 to be transferred with professional contract.

On a later interview at same season for a newspaper, he stated that he missed out Istanbul derby match against Galatasaray on 2007/08 season when he did not have even 5 TL to pay and watch at a café.[16]

On May 2008, he was selected for national U-17 team to play at 2008 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship in which he could not score and missed in the penalty shoot-outs in semi-finals against France.[17][18]

[edit] Playing style

Batuhan is known for his goal scoring abilities, especially his heading skills and positioning in the box for crosses from wings.[19] He also describes himself a funny person, but on the pitch as an ambitious player.[1]

[edit] Controversy

Although he was criticized by the papers that he did acted selfish and not to assist Higuain in the match against Fenerbahçe, he also stated that he did not realize him during that moment.[16] In the subsequent news, it was written that he preferred to score himself instead of assisting, by his direct speeches.[12]

As a part of national U-17 team, he achieved the semi-finals in 2008 UEFA European Under-17 Football Championship and played against France. He was highly criticized due to showing the direction to the keeper in the penalty shoot-out where he will have shooted and behaved wayward.[20] He also missed the penalty.
