From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Battle of Taliwa was fought in Ball Ground, Georgia in 1755. It was mainly fought over land between the Cherokee and Creek, with the Cherokee winning. According to the "Women's Studies" of Central Oregon Community College site on 17th and 18th century women, Nan'yehi (later Nancy Ward), at 18 years old, took up her slain husband's gun, and singing a war song, led the Cherokees to victory in this battle over land. This won her the title of "Warrior Woman", and lasting respect as a Cherokee tribal leader.
