Battle of Stegeborg took place at Stegeborg, Sweden on the 8 September 1598. In Sweden it is part of the War against Sigismund, of the Polish-Swedish Wars. King of Poland and Sweden, Sigismund, tried to put down a rebellion by Duke Charles. Sigismund, accompanied by mostly Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth forces, was victorious, however he decided not to press his advantage as to not antagonise the Swedes with heavy losses. In the long run, this proved to be a mistake, as the Swedish rebels regained the initiative and defeated Sigismund at the battle of Stångebro. This effectively led to the end of the Polish-Swedish union.
