The Battle of Sisak (Croatian Bitka kod Siska; Slovene Bitka pri Sisku; German Schlacht bei Sisak) on June 22, 1593 was an important victory for Christian forces over the Ottoman army.
It took place at Sisak, now central Croatia. Hasan Pasha Predojević led the Ottoman forces, while the forces of the Holy Roman Empire were led by Ruprecht Eggenberg. Croatian were led by Croatian ban Toma Erdödy, while Carniolan forces were commanded by Andrej Auersperg.
The battle restored the balance of power and brought the expansion of the Ottoman Empire into Central Europe to a halt and allowed the duchies of Carniola, Carinthia, and Styria (then collectively known as Inner Austria) and Croatia to remain free from Turkish control, while the Habsburgs managed to affirm their position in those territories.
